Student seminar:

Each student has to prepare an essay and present it to the fellow students in a short (20-25 min) talk.

The seminar will take place in the first week of May, during lecture and exercise times (Mon 10-12, Thu 14-16, Fri 12-14) in the corresponding rooms. Three presentations will be scheduled for each session. Absence from the sessions is not allowed without a valid reason. If the reason is known in advance (i.e., something else than accute illness) permission to be absent has to be agreed with the lecturer in advance.

The essay has to be submitted to the lecturer at the seminar session where the paper is presented, the latest. It should concentrate on explaining the main concepts and ideas related to the topic. It is not necessary to include exhausting lists of details that undoubtedly can be easily found online on each of the topics. Concentrate on demonstrating that you inderstand the basics and to present the topic to the fellow students in an understandable way. Both the essay and the presentation should make use of illustrations.

The essay should be about 5-8 pages long, including the figures (A4, single spacing). All references must be included in the essay with appropriate citations. Direct quotes from other sources have to be marked with quotation marks, and the amount of direct quotations should be kept as small as possible. Failure to comply with these basic standards will lead to very low points on the essay.
